"40 Years of Ministry" In Recognition of Continuous, Distinguished and Dedicated Service

Rev Dr. Clenard H. Childress Jr

40 years of ministry will be celebrated Saturday, October 13, 2018, at the Pantagis Renaissance, 250 Park Ave, Scotch Plains NJ, 07076.  On October 13, 1978, Brother Clenard H. Childress Jr. having been appointed Youth Director by his Pastor the Rev Dr. Shellie Sampson, began a 40-year ministry of service and dedication.  That day will always be remembered in the heart of Pastor Childress. It proved to be a date orchestrated by God to test and demonstrate the need for his servant to pass a test of priority.

Still working in business as a sales representative for Acme Institutional Food Sales. His free time was special and he chose to dedicate that to the youth he would soon be reaching from the neighborhood playgrounds and streets of the Essex County area. October 13 was a day he promised to begin; after praying with Tyshalyn Sampson, Robin Carter, Roselyn Crawley, and Robert Salter that God would send young men to the church. The Sunday prior to the 13th God would send Mary Flounoy and her three sons Richard, Lenny, and Wayne.  We saw God was doing something special! We all were happy to be able to tell them that we were beginning a youth group that coming Friday.

The test of priority came the next day one he and others would never forget.  Monday, October 9th as Pastor fondly remembers his boss excitingly came to him and asked, "Would you like to go to the World Series game this Friday. I have box seats by third base side!"  He turned quickly, and is overjoyed at the opportunity as he went to say yes, the Holy Spirit simultaneously spoke through him and said, "No, I made a commitment to fellowship with a group of young teenagers this Friday and I have to be there.” The Lord was teaching Pastor Childress early that he must keep the priority of souls first and foremost.

Now, this was punctuated powerfully by hearing the next day the great catches Greg Nettles made that night at third. Pastor realized he surrendered a perfect seat to be at New Calvary's first official youth meeting! "Looking back even to this very day I have never regretted it," said Pastor Childress, "We have come a long way and have quite a way yet to go but God has promised to get us there and he chooses the pace! Please celebrate that journey with Rev. Dr. Clenard H. Childress Jr, congregation, and friends Saturday, October 13, 2018, at 6:00 PM.  We ask that you make your reservation or a donation to a great work that continues on in excellence. You won't want to miss this awesome celebration.
